Testing Environmental Influences on Star Formation with a Sample of Lsb Dwarf Galaxies in the Virgo Cluster

چکیده

We analyze the star formation activity of an homogeneous LSB dwarf galaxy sample in the Virgo cluster, as a function of the radial velocity relative to the cluster mean velocity and the projected distance from the center of the cluster, using CCD images obtained at the Wise Observatory. The localized Hα emission in the HII regions of this sample is compared to that of an isolated gas-rich sample of LSB dwarf galaxies and that of a representative sample of Blue Compact Dwarf (BCD) galaxies in the cluster. We report preliminary results on the LSB dwarf star formation histories obtained from surface color distribution.

The dwarf LSB galaxy population of the Virgo Cluster II . Colours and H I line observations

In order to investigate the nature of dwarf Low Surface Brightness (LSB) galaxies we have undertaken a deep B and I band CCD survey of a 14 sq degree strip in the Virgo Cluster and applied a Fourier convolution technique to explore its dwarf galaxy population down to a central surface brightness of ∼ 26 B mag/ arcsec and a total absolute B mag of ∼ -10. In this paper we carry out an analysis of...

The Origin of Dwarf Ellipticals in the Virgo Cluster

We study the evolution of dwarf (LH < 10 9.6 LH⊙) star forming and quiescent galaxies in the Virgo cluster by comparing their UV to radio centimetric properties to the predictions of multizone chemospectrophotometric models of galaxy evolution especially tuned to take into account the perturbations induced by the interaction with the cluster intergalactic medium. Our models simulate one or mult...

X-ray sources in dwarf galaxies in the Virgo cluster and the nearby field

The extent to which dwarf galaxies represent essentially scaled down versions of giant galaxies is an important question with regards the formation and evolution of the galaxy population as a whole. Here, we address the specific question of whether dwarf galaxies behave like smaller versions of giants in terms of their X-ray properties. We discuss two samples of around 100 objects each, dwarfs ...

Star Formation Properties of Isolated Blue Compact Galaxies

We report Hα observations of a sample of very isolated blue compact galaxies (BCGs) located in the direction of large cosmic voids obtained to understand their stellar population compositions, the present star formation (SF) properties, and their star formation histories (SFHs). Our observations were combined with photometric data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and near-infrared data ...

A linear near-IR Tully-Fisher relation for giant and dwarf late-type galaxies

We present the near-IR (K′-band, i.e.: λ = 2.1 μm) Tully-Fisher (TF) relation for a sample of 50 giant and dwarf late-type galaxies, selected from the Virgo Cluster Catalogue. We find that L ∝ V 4 Max along a range of 8 K′-mag for galaxies with different Hubble types (from Sa to Im-BCD), phenomenologies, structures, star-formation histories, masses, dark-to-luminous mass ratios, metallicities a...
